I made this show for one of my daughters, while thinking of my mother. I wanted to speak about today to the children of today. To tell once again, as simply and as concretely as possible, the story of this little girl who leaves her mother’s home to go to her grandmother’s and meets a wolf. The passage from one generation to the next, the desire and the fear of growing up, solitude, the encounter—without these questions ever being addressed directly by the characters—that, I believe, is what makes this story so enchanting for children and adults alike.” Joël Pommerat, director This show marks the first encounter of Joël Pommerat and the Compagnie Louis Brouillard with the Chinese public. Joël Pommerat’s contemporary writing here stages a single, overwhelmed mother, a neglected grandmother, and a child who questions herself in the face of a wolf as dangerous as he is seductive. Paced with humor, this show is aimed at children and adults alike. Joël Pommerat © David Balicki An author and director, Joël Pommerat was born in 1963 and founded the Compagnie Louis Brouillard in 1990. He considers himself a “writer of performance,” since text and staging are developed together during rehearsals. In 2004, the Théâtre National de Strasbourg hosted the premiere of his play Au monde, which was then the company’s first major popular and critical success. His shows Au monde (2004), Les Marchands (2006), and Little Red Riding Hood (2004) were revived at the Avignon Festival during the 2006 edition. Pommerat would go on to rewrite other tales: Pinocchio in 2008 and Cinderella in 2011. Some of his shows particularly marked contemporary French theater, such as The Reunification of the Two Koreas in 2013 and Ça ira (1) Fin de Louis in 2015. Joël Pommerat is currently an associate artist at the Théâtre national de Bruxelles and the Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe. Since 2014, he has been part of the artists’ association of Nanterre-Amandiers.
