MENG Theatre Studio was established in 1997. Its creation principle always bases on the principal of diversification and the character of avant-garde, bases on this principle the MENG Theatre Studio has presented more than 30 pieces of contemporary theatre works which can lead the Chinese theatre art. Among them, the “Rhinoceros in Love” is looked as “the bible of the contemporary love”, other classic comedy play “Two Dogs’ Opinion’s on Life” has been played more than 1,000 times.
The theatre plays has been toured all over the world: in 2003, the “Rhinoceros in Love” was invited to Seoul to take part in the “The Future Theatre Festival in Seoul Korea”, in 2011, it has been invited to the “Adelaide Theatre Festival”, and “Melbourne Festival”, in 2014, the “Rhinoceros in Love” took part in the “Festival d’Avignon”, and toured in Italy. “The Love of Three Oranges ” was invited to the “Festival d’Avignon” in 2011, at the same year, “Quixote” was invited to Spain. Not only them, “Two Dogs’ Opinion’s on Life” has been played in Washington America, and Edinburgh. The “The Flower in the mirror, The Moon in the Water” has been played in Germany, as the same the “To Live”.
Meanwhile, the MENG Theatre Studio has organized lots of theatre festival: “The Beijing Fringe Festival”, “Theatre Biennale”, “Hangzhou Contemporary Festival” etc.. Also many workshops: dance, acting, writing, directing etc..
The MENG Theatre Studio is not only focused on creating theatre works, but also aims to bring the Chinese Theatre art to a new level, to a new age.
